Hagstone Pottery is hand-thrown, fired and glazed by Jacqueline Rappaport, in her studio in rural Northamptonshire.
Jacqueline's approach to pottery is practical as well as aesthetic. Stoneware and porcelain clays are fired at high temperatures to create pieces which are as usable as they are beautiful.
"Put simply, I make pots which I myself would like to buy. Making and using pottery I love is what makes me happy, and everything I make has to be able to withstand hot food and a good blast in the dishwasher!"
Influences include the Leach pottery in Cornwall, where Jacqueline has spent time perfecting her throwing skills in an environment where practicallity and beauty are absolutely intertwined.
The Arts and Crafts movement has also played a strong role in shaping Jacqueline's artistic output. "I have always been an advocate of William Morris's advice about having nothing in your home which you do not either know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful. Hopefully my pottery serves both functions."
Jacqueline also paints watercolours, runs a busy family and a small bed and breakfast business...and at the moment is seriously considering keeping some ducks...
